PAIN WARRIORS: Coming Spring 2020
A New Film on the Chronic Pain Crisis in North America
By: Toronto Filmmakers Tina Petrova and Eugene Weis
There are no runs for chronic pain, no walks for its cure- yet
chronic pain disables some 25% of the population
of Canada and the USA. This is no small disease.
In Canada, chronic pain costs the economy
an estimated 60 Billion annually in lost
wages, treatment and productivity; in the USA
the figure skyrockets to a staggering 634 Billion
annually.
Those who suffer from intractable, long term pain in North America
now outnumber heart disease, cancer and diabetes patients
combined. The current media focus on the Opioid Crisis (a more
dramatic but not necessarily a more serious issue) has unfortunately
resulted in a profound loss of care for chronic pain sufferers
who in many cases are being undertreated, with dire consequences.
PAIN WARRIORS bravely enters the trenches of
chronic pain to tell the other side of the story- all
but forgotten pain patients and the courageous
pain doctors who continue to treat them, some
even facing persecution in the USA.
This new documentary enters into the desperate
lives of patients fighting for their very survival,
families torn apart by suicide, the troubled world of pain medicine
and the emerging disease of pediatric chronic pain.
It is our intention to bring a balanced view to a difficult issue.
